After receiving the e-mail on September 28, Jennifer Livingston responded to it on the air on October 2, 2012.
The on-air response has drawn attention across the country. Some call it courageous and inspiring. Schools are showing it to prevent bullying because Livingston did compare it to a type of bullying.
Livingston, who works at WKBT-TV, read the e-mail on the air. Then she talked directly to the viewer who sent the e-mail. She concluded by telling others, especially children, not to be bullied by such comments.
This is what the viewer wrote:
“It’s unusual that I see your morning show, but I did so for a very short time today. I was surprised indeed to witness that your physicchal condition hasn’t improved for many years.
Sure you don’t consider yourself a suitable example for this community’s young people, girls in particular. Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you’ll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle.”
Livingston said she tried to laugh off this very hurtful attack on her appearance but couldn’t ignore the hundreds of responses it received after her husband, fellow WKBT anchor Mike Thompson, posted it on his Facebook page.
